Want your student to take 7th or even 8th grade math as a 6th grader? This class will help them prepare for the middle school math placement test by reviewing fifth grade math concepts and previewing sixth grade math.

Course Description:

Want your student to take 7th or even 8th grade math as a 6th grader? This class will help them prepare for the middle school math placement test by reviewing fifth grade math concepts and previewing sixth grade math, which make up 70% and 30% of the test, respectively. Small-group classes will include explanations of concepts, time to do practice problems/practice tests, and an environment for students to ask individualized questions.

Targeted Students: 

5th graders

Prerequisites:

5th grade-level math

Requirements:

Students need to mastering addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, addition, subtraction, and multiplication of fractions, decimals, mixed numbers and basic Pre-Algebra skills.

What Students Learn:

Review of some 5th grade topics:

  • Order of operations, evaluating expressions

  • Place value, decimals, word problems with money

  • Multiplying/dividing 2 or 3-digit numbers

  • Adding/subtracting fractions, least common denominators

  • Comparing and converting units

Preview of some 6th grade topics:

  • Ratios, unit rates, unit price

  • Operations with fractions and decimals

  • Factors, GCF, and LCMFa

  • Rational numbers and the coordinate plane

  • Exponents

  • Variable expressions, equations, and inequalities
